10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge – Part I

I have always struggled with my weight, but the struggle has never been THIS real. When I was younger I could change my eating habits or work out a little each day and it didn’t effect anyone else, but now with a family of 5 and a busy and inconsistent schedule, things aren’t quite that easy.

With my first pregnancy I totally let myself go, and since then its only gotten worse. Since I am shorter than average (5′ 2″ on a good day, but lets be real and say more like 5′) gaining weight makes a drastic change in my size. I’ve fluctuated between where I am now and 40 lbs lighter for the past 5 years, but seriously, I am ready for a change. A BIG one.

In 2013, we changed our eating habits as a family and switched to a vegan (plant-based) diet. [meaning NO dairy (cheese, milk, butter) and NO meat (including seafood)] It was fabulous! I was pregnant with our 2nd child at that time and I actually LOST 15 lbs in that pregnancy from eating better instead of gaining. Three years later, we have slacked off A LOT. Though we still maintain a vegan diet, we eat A LOT of processed food and sugar – oh the sugar! My kiddos keep me moving, but exercise – pshh – I have no time, nor the will to make some (a nap just sounds much more inviting).

But something has to change.

I feel SO unhealthy….gross….unhappy. So starting today – June 1, 2016 – I am challenging myself (but I’m sure my family will be affected by this as well) to eat better and exercise for the month of June. As I learned when we made our initial diet change, sticking to a goal for a month makes a big difference and helps that changes stick.

THE CHALLENGE:
NO sugar, NO processed food for 30 days + exercising regularly

THE GOAL:
lose weight, eat healthier, and make healthy habits

THE PLAN:
Start the first 10 days off with a 10-day green smoothie cleanse (the book I am using for this is 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse by JJ Smith) and exercise every other day (I will be using Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred).

I plan on documenting my progress throughout the month and hopefully we see some results (and a happier boss momma!)
