Hey there! This is my 1 week progress report. If you didn’t already catch Part I – the introduction to my health challenge for the month of June, you can hop on over and give that a quick read here.
Today, I am halfway through my 10-day green smoothie cleanse using the book 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse by JJ Smith! On Day 1 (June 1), my exercise video and green smoothie cleanse book arrived in the evening (Amazon next day = AMAZING) so I did not get to start the smoothie part until Day 2. However, my oldest daughter and I cracked open our Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred video and got our exercise on. We are being truthful right? The truth is, it was HARD. My whole family gave up on me (because of course they had to watch us sweat our buns off but didn’t want to sweat themselves). I was embarrassed by how much I couldn’t do, WORE OUT, and sweaty. I like literally jumped in the shower immediately after because I felt so gross.
The next day, I woke up at 7 am in the pouring rain and took a trip to the grocery store (by myself!!!) to buy the ingredients needed to make my first 5 days worth of smoothies and healthy snacks. I LOVE that the book includes a grocery list to buy all the things needed to make the smoothies. This made my trip to the store quick and painless! I just brought the book to the store with me and grabbed what I needed. Speaking of quick and painless – ya’ll the recipe for each day makes one smoothie that you pour into three servings to have throughout the whole day! This was so helpful for this busy momma, because when lunch and dinner time rolled around all I had to do was open the fridge and grab my green smoothie. The book also encourages you to snack in between smoothies, so I had small containers set aside with a trail mix I made from unsalted almonds, walnuts, pecans and raisins. Other snacks I have been eating are: my favorite homemade 5-minute microwave hummus (from the best vegan blog on the internet, Minimalist Baker) with carrots and celery and my favorite snack – peanut butter with celery and apple slices!
Here is a breakdown of how my first week has gone:
Day 1 – First workout // ate regular vegan diet
Day 2 – Rested // green smoothies and healthy snacks
Day 3 – Worked Out // green smoothies and healthy snacks
Day 4 – Rested // green smoothies and healthy snacks
Day 5 – Worked Out // green smoothies and healthy snacks
NOTE: My husband brought me on a date to the movies and I had an unsalted and unbuttered pretzel.
Day 6 – Rested // I forgot my smoothie and snacks for lunch-dinner time so we ended up eating out. I had a Green Passion Power Smoothie and Garden Vegetable Soup with Pesto from Panera Bread for lunch.
Day 7 – Missed My Workout // Ate Gumbo
So far everything has been great! I have lost 8 lbs so far. It has been getting easier to do the exercises which is super encouraging. I honestly just feel so much better! Oh, and then I have to share – before I started this challenge I had been suffering from a pretty bad rash that had been coming and going over the past week (I think I had an allergic reaction to some medicine…honestly it was pretty bad when it would flair up and I don’t know what made it flair up but when it did my lip would swell and I would break out in hives all over my torso, arms, and legs), but since I have started this green smoothie cleanse I have only had it show up twice in small areas instead of all over! God sure is good! I am in awe of how great He is!
I look forward to finishing the second half of the cleanse and getting stronger as I continue exercising throughout the month. I am super excited for how this challenge has changed my perspective and emotional state!
