Book Love

What I Read in 2019 + My 2020 List

Last year, I set a personal goal to read 12 books – one a month for the whole year! I have to admit, the beginning of the year I was off to a slow start. This frustrated me because when I was younger I read ALL THE TIME. I literally brought a book to read with me everywhere I went. I was busy with school and softball, but I found time to read – so not having time wasn’t a valid excuse.

About mid-year, I realized that the biggest difference between then and now was the type of books I was trying to read. I looooove motherhood, business, and marriage books (and I bought a TON of them in 2019) but I couldn’t get myself to stick to reading them all the way through no matter how interested I was in them. So I tried a fiction book, and BAM! I finished it in days. I grabbed another fiction book, and I was done with that one in no time! I was bringing books around with me again and staying up reading them until I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. As a result I not only completed my 12 book goal, but I exceeded it! 14 books total for 2019!

Here are my 14 books:

1 – “Body Love” by Kelly Leveque (listened on Audible)
2 – “A Love Letter Life” by Audrey and Jeremy Roloff (listened on Audible)
3 – “The Road Back to You” by Ian Cron and Suzanne Stabile
4 – “The Path Between Us” by Suzanne Stabile
5 – “Getting Noticed” by Lindsay Teague Moreno
6 – “The Legend of Sheba” by Tosca Lee
7 – “Iscariot: A Novel of Judas” by Tosca Lee
8 – “Night” by Elie Wiesel
9 – “Free to Focus” by Michael Hyatt (listened on Audible)
10 – “The Polygamist’s Daughter” by Anna LeBaron
11 – “The Giver” by Lois Lowry
12 – “Gathering Blue” by Lois Lowry
13 – “Messenger” by Lois Lowry
14 – “Son” by Lois Lowry

(Books in bold are my favorites from 2019)

After learning my lesson about mixing fiction into my reading plan (and sometimes I just added shorter books in so I could get through them faster and gain momentum) I decided to up my goal for 2020 to 24 books – 2 per month! I am hoping this will be one fiction book and one motherhood, business or marriage book (or what I consider my “learning category”).

I tend to lean toward more children or young adult fiction (since I can also vet books to let my kids read!) so if you have some suggestions please leave them in the comments below!
